My first photography guru Gaurav Srivastava, made me buy a UV filter the first time I bought a dSLR… his reasons were pretty simple… In case the camera falls or there is an impact, there are chances that the filter would take the impact and break, saving your expensive lenses from breaking!

This was atleast half a decade ago, and I always made it a point to get a filter along with my lenses!

Yesterday was the day when buying one finally paid of! My bag fell from the couch, hitting the floor head on with the lens cap resulting in the filter glass breaking into pieces! To make things worse, it was stuck and took a substantial effort to come out of the lens! Thankfully the lens seems to be alright as of now, but filter for obvious reasons gave its life for the lens!
