Chai ki Dukaan on its new platform…
Has been doing reasonably well in the last few weeks!!! Here are a few observations wrt moving from blogger to wordpress!
- WordPress as a platform gives blogging a little more professional feeling than blogger… Feels a bit more mature in terms of how services are delivered via wordpress including the themes, plugins, widgets etc.
- Addition of a lot of fancy plugins slowed down the website to an irritating extent, however have tried to sort that out by understanding more about “under the hood” stuff! Also I am using Cloudflare services to make the website faster
- WordPress gives better control over management of media (used photographs so far only though) and has much better ways to present them (using various plugins)
- I have really liked the way I can now arrange my posts in categories and tags now, and also work on displaying them accordingly. Menus are a welcome change for me too. Browsing to content of interest is now way much easier.
- I am not too sure about how SEO works, however the plugin that I am using for SEO seems to be doing its job alright!
- WP integration with other social media platforms also seems to be a much tighter in comparison with blogger(mostly thanks to the third party plugins though)
- The website, in my opinion, looks more clean and neat! Though I have heard the exact opposite from a few friends 🙂
- Most importantly, I am liking the exploration of wordpress so far, and have been more actively adding content to Chai ki Dukaan!
- Blogger was definitely lighter to use, and quicker to load! Changing of colors and tweaking a theme was easier on blogger, and never felt the need to know code there… here I feel that with learning some code, I can do better!
- I move away from Google, where a single signon was working nice.. with wordpress, I have to move away from Single Signon
- And I missed this one when I wrote the post initially… When I imported the content from Blogger to WordPress, though it was a simple process, it took me a number of attempts before I could import everything! That meant that I was partially successful with the import, deleted whatever was imported, and tried it again, and followed the same cycle a few times before I had everything… and when it all finished, I still did not have the comment contents, only the comment writers and number of comments for each post! too bad!
More later, as I explore more…
